Acres Gaming has triumphed in a legal dispute with International Game Technology (IGT) concerning allegations of patent violations, protecting its Foundation casino administration platform and cost models.
The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), following a comprehensive examination, ruled in favor of Acres and nullified all assertions made by IGT. IGT had contended that Acres’ Foundation platform encroached upon four of its patents pertaining to digital gaming innovations, potentially compelling Acres to pay substantial royalty charges that could have escalated the expenses associated with the Foundation platform for gaming establishments.
Nevertheless, Acres effectively provided proof of preexisting technologies, leading the USPTO to dismiss IGT’s claims. This disagreement originated in 2021 when IGT initially submitted its legal action, prompting Acres to request this evaluation by the USPTO.
John Acres, the originator of Acres, conveyed relief, stating that these patents should not have been levied against his firm initially. This judgment guarantees that the Foundation platform remains accessible at its present cost framework.
This victory follows other tactical maneuvers by Acres, including the recent designation of David Bain, a seasoned finance professional, as their Chief Financial Officer. Bain’s proficiency is anticipated to further bolster Acres’ standing within the sector.
Acres is expanding its footprint through collaborations, such as its alliance with Maverick Gaming. They’re equipping Maverick’s gaming establishments with their CMS+ platform and a streamlined cashless gaming application. This technology, integrated with their Foundation hardware, empowers casinos with enhanced data management and leverages mobile technology to facilitate seamless communication within the casino environment.
