A firm that tracks wagering patterns, Sportradar, has verified that no irregular betting activity was observed during the 2020 European Football Championship.
Sportradar collaborates closely with UEFA, the governing body of European football, to operate a system that identifies and prevents betting fraud. This system, in place for over a decade, analyzes betting trends and behaviors for all European football matches.
During the Euro 2020 tournament, held in June and July, Sportradar did not detect any suspicious betting activity. All alerts from the system were reviewed and explained by athletic reasons.
Sportradar also provided guidance and assistance to UEFA through a specialized group that brings together professionals from the sports world and government agencies. This group facilitates information sharing and addresses any concerns regarding the integrity of the games.
Sportradar scrutinized the wagering activity on the competition, discovering that the worldwide betting amount on the event reached an unprecedented peak of 62 billion euros (53 billion pounds/73 billion dollars).
The average betting sum per match in the competition was roughly 1.2 billion euros, with the concluding match attracting approximately 4 billion euros in wagers.
The competition’s victor, Italy, attracted the highest betting volume per match throughout the contest, reaching 1.98 billion euros.
Sportradar has inked new accords with numerous sports organizations this year to aid in the battle against integrity concerns, including the International Table Tennis Federation, the European Handball Federation, the Swedish Football Association, and the Dutch Olympic Committee/Dutch Sports Federation.
